BIOGRAPHY

ORIGINS

Originally founded as THE DRAGONSLAYER PROJECT, the group now known as DRAGONY was created in summer of 2007 by former members of the split-up Austrian Powermetal-Bands OMEGA EFFECT and ELEFTHERIA. After additional members on bass, drums and keyboards had been found, the band began rehearsing for their first live shows which they played in spring 2008.

Since then, the band has had a few gigs in Vienna and its surroundings, with local support slots for national and international acts such as EDENBRIDGE, FIREWIND and AXXIS among them. The band's music is heavily influenced by well-known bands of the True- and Powermetal genres such as HAMMERFALL, EDGUY, KAMELOT or NIGHTWISH; with a lot of doublebass, harmonic guitar leads and catchy choruses.

After the very successful "Night Of Power 2009" that DRAGONY organised together with ECLIPTICA and that featured SERENITY as a headlining act, as well as local support gigs for PAUL DI'ANNO, SONATA ARCTICA and MANTICORA, DRAGONY recorded their debut album "Legends".

"Legends" was recorded and mixed at WildOneMusic Studios Vienna by Jakob Grabmayr and Frank Pitters, and mastered by Mika Jussila at Finnvox Studios Helsinki.

In 2012, DRAGONY promoted and performed at the METAL NATION Tour of PRIMAL FEAR and BRAINSTORM in Vienna Austria.

Also, DRAGONY appeared at METALFEST Austria 2012 in Mining am Inn.

LEGENDS

In May 2012, DRAGONY announced the signing of a worldwide deal with LIMB Music. The debut album "Legends" was released in June 2012 worldwide via Limb Music.

In October 2012, it was announced that Daniel Stockinger (guit) and Georg Lorenz (keys) left the band. Simon Saito was announced as new guitar player, and in December 2012, Manuel Hartleb joined the band as a new keyboard player.

SHADOWPLAY

The band released its second album "Shadowplay" in September 2015.

To promote the release of the album, DRAGONY released an 80s-Metal-Tribute video to the David Hasselhoff viral hit "True Survivor", and also joined legendary German Power Metal outfit GAMMA RAY on their "25 Years In Metal" tour in fall of 2015. To cap off a very successful year, DRAGONY performed at Austria's two biggest festivals, NOVA ROCK festival (opening the Red Stage for TWISTED SISTER) and Donauinselfest, after performing as support act for genre greats such as BLIND GUARDIAN, POWERWOLF, VAN CANTO and FREEDOM CALL in Austria, Slovakia and Hungary.

10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY & LORDS OF THE HUNT

2017 marked the ten year anniversary of the founding of the band, and to celebrate this occasion, DRAGONY released an anniversary EP titled "Lords Of The Hunt", which featured two brand new songs as well as re-recordings of fan favorites from the debut album "Legends" and some previously unreleased bonus tracks and videos.

MASTERS OF THE MULTIVERSE

Subsequently, the band launched a successful crowdfunding campaign for their third album titled "Masters of the Multiverse", which will be released in October 2018 via Limb Music. The album is once again chock-full of 10 epic Glory Metal anthems, with lyrical themes ranging from fantasy movies and literature ("Flame of Tar Valon", "The Iron Pirce") over 80s cult movies ("If It Bleeds We Can Kill It") to video games ("Fallen Star", "Evermore") and even Anime ("Angels On Neon Wings").

To promote the new album, DRAGONY joined Austrian Symphonic Metal acts SERENITY and VISIONS OF ATLANTIS on the "Symphonic Metal Nights" Tour in the fall of 2018, coming through Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, France, Hungary and Austria, and followed up with performances on 70.000 Tons of Metal and Wacken Open Air in 2019.

In the fall of 2019 the band launched another successful crowdfunding campaign for their upcoming fourth album.

VIRIBUS UNITIS

For their fourth studio album, the band departed from the single song focused concept of their previous record in favor of a "return to the roots" of sorts, releasing a concept album in the vein of their debut "Legends".

The album, named "Viribus Unitis" after the old Austrian emperor's official motto, is a tribute to the times of the Austro-Hungarian empire and a satirical commentary on its oft-glorified iconic figures, Emperor Franz-Joseph and Empress Elisabeth, known as "Sisi". In Dragony's conceptual storyline, history takes a different turn, and heir apparent Rudolph has to deal with a zombified Empress Elisabeth as well as a Cyberpunk-enhanced Franz Joseph, simply known as "Cyberpunk Joseph". Read the full storyline Synopsis here!

"Viribus Unitis" will be released on January 15th 2021 via Napalm Records.

In March 2022, Matt Plekhanov was announced as new guitarist for Dragony following the departure of founding member Andreas Poppernitsch, due to increasing responsibilities outside the band.

Currently, the band is working on their fifth studio album, currently scheduled to release sometime in 2024.
